AZURE COVE
Third-person action-adventure level - 2025 (WIP)

CONTEXT

​

"You play as an adventurer racing to reach a village to stop a convoy of precious minerals, stolen to be forged into weapons by a dangerous group."

 

Azure Cove is a third-person action-adventure level set in a coastal forest, blending exploration, platforming, and combat. Inspired by franchises like Uncharted and Tomb Raider, the level challenges the player to navigate natural obstacles, follow guiding paths, and confront enemies.

LEVEL DESIGN

THE PROCESS OF CRAFTING AN IMMERSIVE AND ENGAGING LEVEL

  • PRE PRODUCTION ​

    • Generate an idea that forms a strong foundation for the level design of the game and gather references to support that idea.

    • Define the pacing, objectives and level design intentions of each level.

    • Design the first gameplay sequences and 2D layouts for the levels.

  • DURING THE PRODUCTION​

    • Designed pathing and elevation changes to balance combat spaces, exploration opportunities, and stealth approaches.

    • Implemented visual language for navigation (climbable ledges, vine guidelines, natural paths) to subtly guide the player.

    • Prototyped combat setups with varied sight ranges, cover placement, and enemy patrols to encourage player strategy.

    • Integrated environmental storytelling through points of interest (abandoned camp, convoy traces, ruined structures) to reward exploration.

    • Iterated on the flow and difficulty curve, alternating tension (enemy encounters) and relief (exploration and traversal).​​​
